“Good food and a warm kitchen are what makes a house a home” - Rachel Ray
Maybe I should feel ashamed to say this out loud, being a nutritionist and all but truth be told; everyday cooking bores the shite out of me. Excuse my language.
My kitchen would totally fool you. I have a shelf in the kitchen with at least 15 cook books on it. People think I love cooking when they see all my recipe books. What I do love is to look in my recipe books and fold the corners on all the recipes I am planning to one day make but for some reason I never try anything new.
I think that maybe I got bored with cooking because my kids are so fussy with new things, also it doesn’t help that they don’t eat onion, chopped tomatoes, cooked, chunky vegetables or anything green. They are great little eaters but they only eat about 5 different dishes between them, so yeah I think maybe that’s the reason for my lack of inspiration.
Of course home-cooking is a must if you want to eat a healthy diet so I do cook quite a lot of Greek food being half Greek and all. The whole family loves eating Greek thankfully but it is very time- consuming. It requires lots of pots and pans and quite a lot of planning and prepping. I also have to admit that I am extremely messy in the kitchen, every time I cook it looks like a small hurricane passed by.
Even though I don’t like cooking, home-cooking is very important to me and I love the idea of sitting around the table as a family and chat about the day. My kids are still small so they still want to talk to me so I am trying to make the most of family dinner time, before they start slamming the door in my face and grow into little teenage monsters. I also want them to grow up with the memories of us eating together and I am excited about teaching them about healthy food and how to eat to nurture our bodies.
Anyway to get to the point, I found the solution to all my home cooking problems…that solution is called Thermomix!
Oh My God! Where has this machine been all my life and why have I not known about it. I have heard the name being mentioned but never seen it in action. It is life changing!
One machine 17 functions: Cooks, steams, kneads, mixes, chops, grates, weighs, whips, mills, grinds, emulsifies, blends, control the temperature, sous vide, slow-cooks and ferments. You can make your own bread, your own jams, your own stock, no preservatives, no additives, no crap!
Opening up the box with the Thermomix and its accessories was like the most exciting thing, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. Can you imagine the excitement over a kitchen machine and I don’t even like cooking?!
The machine has a built in “tablet” that connects up to your Wi-Fi so you can access over 40.000 recipes online and then through guided cooking you just add all the ingredients in to the cooking bowl and press the next button until it has taken you through the recipe step by step. It cooks the meal for you in no time.
It is so easy to use, and it is super quick and so fun that even the kids or my husband can cook. We all absolutely love it. Another super amazing thing is that all the recipes comes with nutrition values so this is extremely helpful for people counting calories or carbs as in my case with both my husband and my daughter being type 1 diabetics.
If you live in Dubai and if you are curious to find out more about the Thermomix, call me for a free cooking class. I am happy to give you a demonstration and show you how amazing this machine is. Love cooking or hate cooking, every family needs a Thermomix in their kitchen, it is incredible!
This week’s action step:
Getting stuck with cooking the same foods over and over happens to all of us and it can make us get bored with home-cooking so this week look through your cook books or online and find a recipe that you have never tried before. Be adventurous and try something new.
